Seven stages, each with its own evidence
Capture
Orders arrive from Shopify, Amazon UK, manual entry, or the API. The exact source payload is referenced, the delivery identity recorded, and replays rejected.
EVIDENCE: source ref, delivery id, received-at
Normalise
Channel-specific shapes become one canonical record. Bundle and Pick & Mix parents expand into component lines, each traceable back to the parent.

Validate
Deterministic checks on weights, dimensions, addresses, restricted goods, and customs data. Failure produces a named hold reason, not a generic error.
EVIDENCE: attempt log, rule id, version
Correct
A staff member edits a bounded set of fields with a reason. The original capture is never overwritten; the correction becomes a new version.

Decide
Rules choose service, packaging, and routing by priority, with conflicts surfaced. Every match can be simulated against real orders before activation.

Approve & release
Where policy requires it, a named approver signs off against the policy version in force at the time. Release is an explicit act, separate from correction.

Execute & reconcile
Carrier booking runs under the merchant's own account with an idempotency key. A timeout is recorded as an unknown outcome and reconciled with the provider.
